A Louisiana Lafitte skiff made by hand from cypress wood from the Louisiana swamps floats in the shallow waters of Lake Pontchartrain close to the Tchefuncte Lighthouse. The Lafitte skiffs were essentially "one man shrimp boats that could outrun the weather" and few of these are still being lovingly hand-crafted in the Cajun areas of Louisiana.
